    Mary Poppins is a set of eight books written by P.L. Travers starting in 1934 to 1988. The books tell the adventures of a magical English nanny and her charges, the Banks children. She is blown into the Banks family home by a strong wind after they lose their first nanny. She pops in and out of the Banks household for three times. The name of the main character was derived from Merry pop-ins. In 1964, the books were made into the Walt Disney film Mary Poppins, which was a big box office hit. Julie Andrews starred as Mary Poppins and Dick Van Dyke starred as her friend Bert, the matchmaker.

    In December 2004, the Disney Musical Mary Poppins started in London, England. After winning several awards in 2005, Disney opened the musical on Broadway in November 2006. It has proven to be a very popular musical. Ashley Brown is starring as Mary and Gavin Lee has the part of Bert. The stage production of Mary Poppins has two acts. The performances are very similar to the movie (with a few differences), however, you can still hear almost all of your favorite songs from the film in the musical.
