Grease Information

    Grease was originally a play by Warren Casey and Jim Jacobs opening in 1971. After receiving advise that it would make a better musical, they changed it to a musical in February 1972. It opened on Broadway in June of 1972. The title was taken from the greasers, a series of white teenage street gangs in the 1950s. They received the name greasers because they used hair wax, gel, or pomade to comb back their hair. The musical tells the story of the romance between Danny Zuko, a greaser, and Sandy Dumbrowski, a nice girl. It is the second longest running musical on Broadway. It was made into a popular movie in 1978, and has had two revivals on Broadway; the first one in 1994 and the second one in 2007.

    The musical opens with the greasers (Burger Palace Boys and the Pink Ladies) going back to high school. During the summer, Danny, the leader of the Burger Palace Boys, had met and fallen in love with Sandy. Sandy is a new transfer student and meets the Pink Ladies. Both tell about their summer love affair to their respective groups. Sandy and Danny then run into each other at school. Danny, in an effort to appear cool before his gang, puts her off. Sandy eventually discovers this and is hurt. The rest of the musical follows the efforts of Sandy trying to fit in with the group and the interactions of the guys and girls. At the end, Sandy is transformed into the prefect greaser girl and stuns Danny. All ends happily ever after. So, get your Grease tickets today to see this hit musical back on Broadway.
