    A Catered Affair is the new Broadway musical based upon a 1953 teleplay and a 1956 movie of the same name. It opened on April 17, 2008. The musical is set in the Bronx during 1953. It tells the story of a young couples impending marriage. Initially, due to the recent death of the bride's brother in Korea, a simple wedding ceremony is planned. In addition, her parents cannot afford a more expensive marriage. However, after having dinner with the grooms parents (a wealthier couple), the bride's mother decides to go all out for her daughters wedding. In the process, she spends almost all of the family's savings on the catered affair. The bride's mother finds support for her efforts from her gay brother, whom she initially did not invite to the wedding. The whole affair puts a severe strain on the parents of the bride; affecting their relationship. However, in the end, after all is said and done, they are drawn closer together.
