Radiohead Information
Radiohead is an English alternative rock band from Oxfordshire, England. It was formed in 1986 as "On a Friday" at Abingdon School by Ed O'Brien (guitar/backing vocals), Colin Greenwood (bass/synthesizers), Jonny Greenwood (lead guitar), Phil Selway (drums), and Thom Yorke (lead vocals). After finishing university, all except Jonny, the band begin to gain fame around Oxford. They were offered a six album-recording contract by EMI; provided they change their name to Radiohead. They did so and released their first single, 'Creep", in 1992. Both it and their first album, "Pablo Honey", released in 1993, did poorly. However, "Creep" became popular in the US in 1993. As "Creep" grew in popularity, so did Radiohead.
Thus began their journey to creating musical history. Somehow Radiohead always manages to maintain a skillful balance between conventional rock and things that have never been done before. Their music is an inspired mix of supernatural electronic rhythms, post-punk angst, imaginative progressive-rock, and insightful lyrics. They need to be seen to be believed.
Their third album, "OK Computer", released in 1997, brought them worldwide success. After finishing their contract with EMI, Radiohead released their seventh album, "In Rainbows", in October 2007 as a download off their website. Fans were able to pay their own price for the album, or its individual tracks; purported sales were greater than expected. The physical album was released in the US in January 2008. Radiohead will commence a world tour for the album starting in May 2008 in North America. So, get your Radiohead tickets today while you still can!
