Pittsburgh Steelers tickets finally gave Steelers fans what they were waiting for. One for the thumb. Can the Steelers get any better in 2006? No doubt. Jut jawed Head Coach Bill Cowher knew he had to upgrade his receiving crew after losing Antwan Randle El to the Redskins. Stuck in the last spot by virtue of their win in Super Bowl XL, Cowher wheeled and dealed his way to the 25th spot in the draft where the Steelers nabbed Ohio State receiver Santonio Holmes. Cowher then used his third round pick to nab Willie Reed, another wideout from Florida State. Adding to an already stout defense, Pittsburgh took defensive tackle Orien Harris in the fourth, a prospect many experts have penciled in as a starter come opening day. Cowher is loaded for bear again, ready to turn those Pittsburgh Steelers tickets into Super Bowl tickets once again.

A brief history of the Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pittsburgh Pirates joined the NFL as an expansion team in 1933. Art Rooney owned the Pittsburgh team and he hired Forrest Douds to be the teams first head coach. The Rooney family has continued to own the Pittsburgh NFL franchise. They played their home games at Forbes field from 1933-1963. The Pirates failed to record a winning season during its first nine seasons in the league. In 1941, Rooney changed the name of this team from Pirates to Steelers to represent the major manufacturers of the city. Walt Kiesling, the teams eight coach, led the Steelers to their first winning season in 1942.

Because of WWII and a lack of players, the Steelers merged with the Philadelhpia Eagles for the 1943 season, (Steagles) and again in 1944, they merged with the Chicago Cardinals and were known as the Card-Pitts. In 1945, the Steelers were once again a single entity but they continued to loose. The Steelers went through eight more head coaches and appeared in only one playoff game over the course of next 27 seasons.

In 1958, the Steelers began playing home games at Pitt Stadium as well as Forbes Field and from 1964-1969, Pitt Stadium was the Steelers only home. In 1969, the Steelers hired new coach Chuck Noll and in 1970 they moved into their new home, Three Rivers Stadium in downtown Pittsburgh.

Chuck Noll began gradually building a team of Super Stars that would change the history of the Pittsburgh Steelers. In 1973, the Pittsburgh Steelers won their first Division title in team history with a franchise best 11 wins to only 3 losses. Despite loosing the AFC Championship game in 1972, the Steeler faithful finally had a good team to cheer for.

The Pittsburgh Steelers returned to the playoffs again in 1973, this time loosing to the Raiders in the first round. In 1974, the Steelers won their second AFC Central Division title. The Steelers then beat the Bills and Raiders in the AFC Playoffs for their first Conference title. The Steelers faced the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl IX and won a defensive struggle by a score of 16-6 to capture their first NFL Championship.

The Pittsburgh Steelers won six consecutive AFC Central division titles and an unprecedented four Super Bowls in 6 seasons during the 1970s earning the title 'Team of the Decade' and arguable the greatest team ever assembled. The Steeler dynasty slipped from elite status during the 1980s. The won only two division titles and failed to reach a single Super Bowl. Chuck Noll retired after the 1991 season as the Steelers hired defensive coordinator, Bill Cower as their new head coach.

Bill Cower led the Pittsburgh Steelers playoffs in his first six seasons as coach with 5 AFC central division titles. The Steelers advanced to three conference Championship games and one Super Bowl. The Steelers faced the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl XXX, a team they had beaten in Super Bowl X and again Super Bowl XIII. The Cowboys returned the favor and beat the Steelers 27-17.

The Steelers experienced a three year playoff drought from1998-2000. In 2001, the Steelers opened their new home, Heinz Field built near the site of old Three Rivers Stadium. Heinz Field is a start of the art facility designed specifically for football and seats over 65,000 football fans.

Bill Cower had the Pittsburgh Steelers back in the playoffs in 2001 with a 13-3 record. After 3 disappointing losses in the playoffs, the Steelers entered the 2005 playoffs with a slim 11-5 record as the final wild card team to qualify. The Steelers surprised the Bengals in Cincinnati in the first round and then upset the heavily favored Colts in Indianapolis. The Steelers then traveled to Denver and beat the Broncos in the AFC Championship game to advance to their sixth Super Bowl. The Steelers became the first team to advance to a Super Bowl by winning three consecutive road Playoff games.

The Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XL to capture their fifth Super Bowl Title. Coming off the heels of a Championship, Pittsburgh Steelers football tickets will be hot items in the upcoming 2006 season.
