Can Buffalo Bills tickets recapture the glory? New head coach Dick Jauron seems to think so. Jauron left Detroit where he served as the Lions interim head coach to take over a talented but struggling Buffalo Bills team. Remember, Dick Jauron led the Chicago Bears to a 13-3 season in 2001 so he knows how to win in the NFL. Jauron was hand picked by new GM Marv Levy, who led Buffalo to their finest hours. Jauron seems to have no doubt that J.P Losman is his quarterback, an issue that has plagued the Bills for the last few years. In order to support Losman the Bills drafted for defense, picking up Ohio State safety Donte Whitner who should be an immediate starter next to Troy Vincent. With Jauron at the helm, the fans in Ralph Wilson Stadium should see an immediate improvement in the defense, something that Buffalo Bills ticket holders have been waiting for.

A brief history of the Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills began playing in the American Football League (AFL) in 1960, one of the charter teams. The Bills are owned by Ralph Wilson, they played their home games at War Memorial Stadium from 1960-1972 and Buster Ramsey was their first head coach.

The Bills won their first AFL East Division title in 1964 with Lou Saban as the head coach. Saban led the Bills to two AFL Championships during the mid 1960s. The Buffalo Bills were a contrast to the AFL. Most of the AFL teams used a high flying offense to win games but the Bills had a top notch defense. The 1964-1966 Buffalo Bills defense was one of the best defenses in history. The Bills defense allowed only 913 yards rushing against them all season in 1964, all the while they recorded 50 quarterback sacks. The 1964 squad allowed only 4 rushing touchdowns all season and began a string of 18 games that extended into the 1965 without allowing a rushing touchdown.

The Bills beat the San Diego Chargers in the 1964 and 1965 AFL Championship games with a stingy defense. The Bills allowed the Chargers only 7 points in the 1964 game and shut them out in the 1965 game. The Bills returned to the AFL championship game in 1966 but lost to the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Buffalo Bills appeared in only 1 playoff game during the 1970s and failed to win any division titles. The Bills opened their new stadium in 1973, Rich Stadium, now known as Ralph Wilson Stadium. The Bills made the playoffs in 1974, with Lou Saban coaching his second term in Buffalo, with a 9-5 reocrd. The Bills lost to the Steelers in the Divisional round of the Playoffs. The Bills won their first division title since the AFL - NFL merger in 1980 with a 11-5 record and Chuck Knox coaching. The Bills lost to the Chargers in the playoffs in 1980 but returned to the playoffs again in 1981 but lost to the Bengals.

In 1986, the Buffalo Bills named Marv Levy as head coach. Levy led the Bills to a stretch of six straight playoff appearances and a record, four consecutive Super Bowls. Unfortunately for the Bills and their fans, the Bills lost all four Super Bowls from 1990-1993. The Bills lost to the Giants in Super Bowl XXV by a score of 20-19. They lost to the Washington Redskins in Super Bowl XXVI by a score of 37-24. They lost to the Dallas Cowboys in both Super Bowl XXVII and Super Bowl XXVIII. Despite loosing four Super Bowls in a row, most experts call this Buffalo Bills team one of the greatest teams ever assembled.

Marv Levy retired after a disappointing 1997 season, where the Bills failed to reach the playoffs. Wade Phillips took over for Levy and led the Bills to two consecutive playoffs, both ended with Wild Card round losses. The loss in 1999 was a hard one considering the Bills had the game won on a late field goal but gave up a last second kick return (flee flicker) for a touchdown now known as the 'Music City Miracle'

Wade Phillips was replaced after a disappointing 2000 season by Gregg Williams who was replaced by Mike Mularkey after a disappointing 2003 season. Mularkey led the Bills to a decent 9-7 record in 2004 but they slipped to 5-11 in 2005 and he was replaced by Dick Juron.

The Bills enter the 2006 season with high expectations. They have a young talented Quarterback (JP Losman) and a young talented running back (Willis McGahee). In the wide open AFC East, the Bills have just as good a chance as any to win the division and Bills fans are hoping for just that by purchasing all the 2006 Buffalo Bills tickets available.
