Arizona Cardinals tickets are the next big thing. Head coach Dennis Green has compiled a roster loaded with stars. Pro Bowl running back Edgerrin James came over from Indianapolis in the offseason and will bring instant credibility to the Cardinals running game. Quarterback Kurt Warner has one of the best young receiving units in the league to work his magic. In 2005, wide receivers Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald proved that they were forces to be reckoned with. Now, with James in the backfield, the Cardinals will be even more dangerous. Don't look now, but the Cardinals are no longer the laughing stock of the NFL. Fear the Cardinals, but don't be scared to scoop up your Arizona Cardinals tickets today.

A brief history of the Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals are the oldest existing Pro Football team in the US. The team was originally formed in 1898 as the Morgan Athletic Club in Chicago. They changed their name to the Cardinals in 1901 and kept the nickname when they joined the NFL in 1920 as the Chicago Cardinals.

The Cardinals played their home games at Normal Park and then Cominsky Park during the 40 years they were located in Chicago. The Chicago Cardinals won their first NFL Championship in 1925 under head coach Norman Barry. The Cardinals finished the season with a 11-2-1 record and were awarded the Championship on record because a title game was not played until 1932 and because the team with the best record, the Pottsville Moroons had their franchise revoked for violating territory rights. The Cardinals were a dismal team for the remainder of the 1930s and 1940s, never finishing higher than third in the division, which they accomplished only once.

Charles Bidwell bought the Cardinals in 1932 from Dr. David Jones and the Bidwell family has owned the team ever since. The Cardinals found success again in 1947 and 1948. They won their second and last NFL Championship in 1948 by beating the Philadelphia Eagles 28-21 in the Championship game. The Eagles returned the favor the next season by beating the Cardinals in the 1948 Championship game. The Cardinals have not played in another Championship game since then. The Cardinals would win only 33 games during the entire decade of the 1950s.

In 1960, the Cardinals moved from Chicago to St. Louis and became known as the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals played their home games at Busch Stadium in St. Louis but continued to struggle. It was not until 1974, under head coach Don Coryell that the Cardinals would return to the NFL Playoffs. The Cardinals won the NFC East division in 1974 and 1975 but would loose in the first round of the playoffs on each occasion. A players strike in 1982 allowed the Cardinals to sneak into the playoffs with a 5-4 record but once again they would loose in the first round.

In 1988, after decades of demise, the Cardinals would move to Arizona and become known as the Phoenix Cardinals. The Cardinals played their home games at Sun Devil Stadium. In 1994, in an effort to gain state wide support, the Cardinals changed their name from Phoenix to Arizona and became known as the Arizona Cardinals, which is the name they use today.

In 1998, under head coach Vince Tobin, the Cardinals made their first playoff appearance since moving to Arizona and won their first playoff game since their 1947 NFL Championship game as they beat the Dallas Cowboys 20-7 in Texas. The Cardinals lost the following week to the Vikings but the flames of success had been lit. Despite the enormous optimism for the Cardinals, they slipped back into their loosing ways and would fail to finish above .500 over the next 7 seasons.

In 2004, the Arizona Cardinals hired Dennis Green as their new head coach. Dennis had success at Minnesota leading the Vikings to the playoffs on 8 separate occasions. The Cardinals finished with a 6-10 record in 2004 and a 5-11 record in 2005 but despite the poor performances optimism is high for 2006. The Cardinals began playing in the new state of the art stadium known as Cardinal Stadium in Glendale, AZ at the start of the 2006 season and ticket sales have been promising in the early stages of the season.
