A brief history of the Texas Rangers

Despite having star studded managers like Ted Williams, Gil Hodges and Billy Martin the Washington Senators were constantly near the bottom of the American League. In 1968 the Rangers were bought by Bob Short. Short moved the Senators from Washington to Texas in 1972. The new team was named the Texas Rangers and they played at Arlington Stadium in Arlington, TX from 1972 through 1993. Despite their new name and home, the Rangers played just as poorly as the Senators had. They posted back to back 100 loss seasons in 1972 and 1973. An occasional season above .500 was thrown into the mix but more often than not, the Rangers were near the bottom of the American League West for the better part of 25 years.
