The 1914 Braves won an improbable 68 of 87 games after July 4 to win the National League Pennant over the New York Giants. They continued their momentum into the World Series and swept the Philadelphia A's four games to zero. After the 1914 Series, the Braves slipped back to the bottom of the league and remained there for the next 30 plus seasons. The team went so far as to change their name from the Braves to the Bees in an effort to separate itself from the previous dismal years. They won the 1948 Pennant with 91 wins but lost the 48 World Series to the Cleveland Indians 4 games to 2.
In 1953, the Braves packed their bags and headed West in hopes to improve ticket sales and team play. The Milwaukee Braves began playing at Milwaukee County Stadium in 1953. The Braves saw immediate improvement in Milwaukee and won 92 games in 1953. By 1957, the Milwaukee Braves won their third National League Pennant and their second World Series title with a thrilling four games to three win over the New York Yankees. The 1954 Braves returned to the World Series but the Yankees returned the favor winning the 54 Series 4 games to three. This Braves Championship team was led by manager Fred Haney and Super Star players like Hank Aaron, Eddie Mathews, and Warren Spahn. The Braves remained in Milwaukee until 1966. The Milwaukee Braves are the only team in Major League history (playing more than 1 season) to never have a losing record. At the end of the 1965 season, despite their success on the field, the Braves moved south to Atlanta, Georgia.
The Atlanta Braves were unable to duplicate their feats in Milwaukee, at least not initially. The Braves won only two division titles during their first 25 seasons in Atlanta. In 2006, the improbably run of division titles came to an end. The Braves finished in third place in their division and out of the playoffs for the first time since 1991.
