Dave Matthews Band Information
The Dave Matthews Band is a rock band formed in 1991 in Charlottesville, Virginia by Dave Matthews (singer/songwriter). Initially, he was afraid to perform in public, but following the encouragement of an early fan, he decided to form a band. Besides Dave, the permanent band members are Carter Beauford (drums), Stefan Lessard (bass), LeRoi Moore (saxophone), and Boyd Tinsley (violin). Since 1998, Butch Taylor (keyboards) has joined the band on stage, and starting in 2006, Rashawn Ross (trumpet) has played with the band.
The Band came together slowly from 1991 into 1992, and actually started performing on Earth Day in 1991, before all the current band members were present. The band performed without a name until Boyd Tinsley wrote down "Dave Matthews Band" on a flyer. The name stuck, however, the band really has no leader; all the members share their input. They independently released their first album, "Remember Two Things", in November 1993. It eventually reached platinum status in 2002. However, it was not until the release of their first two studio albums, "Under the Table Dreaming" in 1994 and "Crash" in 1996, that the band received nationwide attention. They won the 1997 Grammy for "Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal" for the song "So Much to Say". Success had arrived!
The Dave Matthews Band gained worldwide success in the early 2000's; especially in Australia and Europe, after struggling for a little bit in the late 1990's. They are currently working on their eighth studio album. The band will commence its 2008 summer tour on May 30. So, get your Dave Matthews Band tickets today and see this dynamic band in action!
