    Tina Turner is an American singer/dancer/songwriter/actress. She has won eight Grammy awards. She has received the title of the "Queen of Rock & Roll" for her outstanding contributions to the musical genre of Rock & Roll. Tina Turner is the most successful female rock singer of all time, having sold more concert tickets as a solo performer than anybody else.

    Tina Turner was born Anna Mae Bullock to Floyd and Zelma Bullock in Nutbush, Tennessee on November 26, 1939. She is both of African and Native American descent. After being abandoned first by her father, and then briefly by her mother, Anna and her older sister moved to St. Louis, Missouri in 1956, where they rejoined their mother. While in St Louis, Anna met and persuaded Ike Turner to let her perform with his band. She started with Ike in 1960, when she was 18. When another singer did not show up to perform the recording of "A Fool in Love", Anna stepped in and did the recording. When released, in 1960, it hit number 2 on the charts. Ike then changed Anna's name to Tina Turner and the name of his band to the "Ike and Tina Turner Revue". They were married in 1962 and have four sons.

    Ike and Tina had a number of hits during the late 60's and early 70's. However, Ike ruled both band and Tina with an iron fist. As they became more successful, he got heavily into drugs and became more and more abusive towards Tina. In 1976, Tina fled from Ike in the middle of their tour, hiding out from him for several months. At first, she had a hard time of it. However, when she realized she owed a large amount of money to the canceled tour's promoters, she decided to reappear in public and pursue a solo career. She divorced Ike in 1978. Her solo career was struggling in the beginning; however, she was still a very popular stage performer.

    The 1984 released of her fifth solo studio album, "Private Dancer", was the break through she needed. It was a very successful album worldwide. She has been on top of the rock world ever since. Her albums have all been in the top ten and her tours have all been record setting sellouts. In 2000, Tina retired from doing major concert tours. She has starred in films and been in several TV specials. In April of 2008, Tina announced that she is coming out of retirement. Her new tour will start on October 1, 2008 in Kansas City, Missouri.
