Rush Information

Rush is an award winning progressive rock band from Canada. It has won nine Juno Awards and received five Grammy nominations. It was formed in Toronto in August of 1968 by Jeff Jones (lead vocalist), Alex Lifeson (guitarist), and John Rustey (drummer). The driving force behind the band was Lifeson, and he replaced Jones with his school friend, Geddy Lee (lead vocalist, guitarist, and keyboards) one month later. The band played local gigs while looking for a recording contract. Unable to interest any record companies, the band formed their own record label, "Moon Records"; releasing their first album "Rush" in 1974 with the help of several volunteers. It was in the style of Led Zeppelin. It was unsuccessful until one of the singles on it, "Working Man", was picked up and played by a Cleveland DJ. "Rush" was then re-released in the US by Mercury Records. Right after the release of their first album, Rustey left the band. Neil Peart was chosen to be the new drummer. He also became the band's lyricist. The lineup of the band was set.

With the release of their eighth studio album, "Moving Pictures" in 1981, Rush hit the peak of their popularity; reaching number three in the US. The band was becoming more and more progressive rock. From 1982 until 1989, the band heavily used keyboard synthesizers and electronic instruments in all of their music. After 1989, Rush went back to more guitar oriented music. Rush dropped off the scene from 1997 until 2002 due to the deaths of Peart's daughter and wife in 1997. In 2002, they restarted the band; releasing "Vapor Trails" which had no keyboards in it. "Snakes & Arrows" was released in May 2007 and went to number three in the US. Following a successful tour after the albums release, Rush announced they were extending their present tour into 2008. So, get your Rush tickets while you still can.
