Reba McEntire Information Reba Nell McEntire was born to Jacqueline and Clark McEntire on March 28, 1955 in McAlester, Oklahoma. While still a young girl, she and her sister and brother formed a singing group, The Singing McEntires. A local DJ played one of their songs, The Ballard of John McEntire, on his radio station in 1971. It became a local favorite. In 1974, while going to college, Reba was picked to sing the National Anthem at the National Rodeo Finals in Oklahoma City. Country music singer Red Steagall heard her perform. He convinced Reba to go to Nashville and seek a recording contract. She followed his advice and finally received a contract from Mercury Records in 1977. Rebas first album, Reba McEntire was released in 1977. That same year she married Charlie Battles. Her first three albums were not very successful, so she acquired a more pop like sound in the early 1980s. Her first number one hit single Cant Even Get the Blues was from her fifth album Unlimited released in 1982. From then on, her career began to take off. In 1984, after signing on with MCA, she won the Country Music Associations (CMA) Female Vocalist of the Year and the Academy of Country Musics (ACM) Top Female Vocalist awards. She went on to win both awards for the next three years. Rebas first number one hit album, Whoevers in New England was released in 1986. She won seven awards for it, including the CMAs Entertainer of the Year award and the Grammy award Best Country Vocal Performance, Female. A country music superstar was born! In 1987, she divorced Charlie Battles and in 1989, she married her manager, Narvel Blackstock. They have one son. In 2001, Reba starred in the Broadway production Annie Get Your Gun as Annie for 5 months. From 2001 until 2007, she starred in her own award winning TV show Reba. Reba has won the ACMs Top Female Vocalist award seven times. She has won 74 awards during her career. In 2007, she was named Billboard Magazines Women of the Year. Her latest album, Duets, was released in September 2007 and opened at the number one spot on both the pop and country charts.
