Ozzy Osbourne Information John Michael Osbourne (known as Ozzy) was born in Aston, England on 3 December, 1948. As a child, he suffered from learning disabilities and had a hard time while in school. As a result, he turned to music to express himself. Three of his former schoolmates, Terence "Geezer" Butler, Tony Iommi, and Bill Ward formed a band called "Polka Tulk" in 1968. Ozzy auditioned for the position of lead vocalist with them after he found out about the band. Although Iommi did want him, the other two did, so he joined the band. They then changed their name to "Earth". After a booking error with another band called "Earth", the band changed their name to a song they had written that was based upon the occult: "Black Sabbath". With the release of their first album, "Black Sabbath", in 1970, Black Sabbath became an international success. They were the first heavy metal rock band. Ozzy stayed in Black Sabbath until he was fired in 1979 due to his alcohol and drug problems. His problems made him very unreliable. His first wife (has three children with), Thelma Riley, divorced him and he entered into severe depression. He was rescued by Sharon Arden, who became his second and current wife (they have four children). He then started his solo career with "The Ozzy Osbourne Band". It also became a very successful heavy metal band. However, he continued to have alcohol and drug use problems. In 1996 he and his wife started "Ozzfest", which show cases new and upcoming heavy metal groups. In 1997, he reunited with the other three original members of Black Sabbath. The group then headlined the yearly Ozzfest until 2007. In 2002, Ozzy Osbourne starred in his own reality show on MTV, "The Osbournes", which portrayed the daily life at the Osbourne home. It ran until 2005, making him more famous than his heavy metal bands had. In 2005, he and Black Sabbath were inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame. In 2006, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Although, Black Sabbath reformed in 1997, they have not released any new material since 1998; primarily because of Osbourne's solo projects. Currently, Ozzy Osbourne is on tour with Rod Zombie, formerly of the heavy metal band "White Zombie". The tour ends on January 21, 2008. Therefore, get your Ozzy Osbourne tickets now before they all run out.
