New Kids on the Block Information

    New Kids on the Block are an award winning pop group founded by Maurice Starr in 1984, after he had successfully promoted an African American quartet. He held auditions for the group in Boston in 1984, looking for an all white team this time. After Donny Wahlberg was picked as the first member of the new group, he called in the rest of his friends to form the rest of the group. Originally, the group included Mark Wahlberg, Donny's older brother. He soon left, was replaced by Jaime Kelley, who was then dropped by Starr and replaced by Joey McIntyre. The other members of the group are Jonathan Knight, Jordan Knight, and Danny Wood.

    The group started out with the name "Nynuk"; which was changed to New Kids on the Block when they received a recording contract from Columbia Records. They released their first album, "New Kids on the Block" in 1986 to lackluster success. However, with the release of their second album, "Hangin' Tough" in 1988, things were different. After a slow start, the album went to number one. New Kids on the Block were a success! They were on tour a lot after that until 1992, when they were accused of lip syncing their second album. The charge was proven to be false; however, the group discovered their popularity had decreased. They broke up in 1994 and went their separate ways.

    In April of 2008, the group announced their reunion. After two failed reunion attempts in 1999 and 2004. They will be releasing a new album, "Back To The Block" in September 2008 and going on tour then too. So, get your new Kids on the Block tickets fast, before they all disappear!
