Martina McBride Information Martina McBride is a highly acclaimed, award winning country music singer/songwriter. She was born Martina Mariea Schiff on 29 July 1966 in Medicine Lodge, Kansas to Jeanne and Daryl Schiff (a farmer). She started singing with her familys band, The Schiffters. After spending one semester at college, she moved to Wichita, Ks, and started singing with some local rock bands. While in Wichita, she met John McBride, a local sound engineer. They were married in 1988 and now have three children. They later moved to Nashville and started working for Garth Brooks. The couple learned that RCA Records was on the hunt for a new female recording artist. So, they gathered up her demo tapes and personal information, placing them in a large purple envelope. They marked it Requested Material and dropped it off at RCA. Although this usually does not work, in this case, RCA examined her material and offered Martina a recording contract. Her first album The Time Has Come was released in 1992. She then went on tour as the opening act for Garth Brooks. However, success did not arrive until her second album The Way That I Am was released in 1993. She received the Country Music Associations (CMA) Music Video of the Year for Independence Day in 1994, a single off her second album. She had her first number one hit with Wild Angels in 1995, the leading single off her third album Wild Angels. With the release of her fourth album Evolution in 1997, she became a country music superstar. It was her first album to make the top ten. Martina McBride has won the CMAs Female Vocalist of the Year Award four times and the Academy of Country Musics Top Female Vocalist Award three times. She released her ninth studio album Waking Up Laughing in April of 2007. It is the first album produced by her and on which she co-wrote some of the songs. She then went on tour promoting the album. However, now she will be going back on tour in 2008. Her tour starts January 18, 2008 and ends on April 20, 2008. So, get your Martina McBride tickets while they are still available.
