Kelly Clarkson was born on April 24, 1982 to Stephen and Jeanne Clarkson in Burleson, Texas. Years after her parents divorced and her mother remarried, Kelly was asked to perform with the school choir in 7th grade, after a teacher overheard her singing. In high school, she started classical voice training. She wanted to receive a music scholarship, in order to attend college. She was actually offered three college scholarships, as she finished high school. However, she turned them all down; deciding to pursue a professional music career.

After moving to Los Angeles, Kelly was picked to be a contestant on the first season of American Idol. She won the 2002 competition. A Moment Like This, a song composed for the shows winner, became her first number one hit single, in 2003. She received a recording contract from RCA, and released her first album, Thankful, in 2003. It opened on the pop charts at number one, but had no other hit singles from it. For her second album, Breakaway, released in 2004; she changed her style to pop-rock. This album had five top ten hits from it. Kelly won the 2005 Grammy Award Best Pop Vocal Album. Her hit single Since U Been Gone, won the 2005 Grammy Award Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

Kelly was the most played performer on American radio stations in 2006. She has appeared in many other TV shows, including Reba. Her third album, "My December, was released in June of 2007. In July of 2007, Narvel Blackstock, husband/manager of Reba McEntire, became Kelly Clarksons manager. Kellys hit single Because of You, was rerecorded and sung as a duet with Reba on Rebas new album Duets. She and Reba McEntire will be on tour together in 2008.
