Keith Urban Information Keith Urban was born in Whangarei, New Zealand on October 26, 1967. Soon after, his parents moved to Caboolture, Australia. At the age of six, he already wanted to become a country music star, making it big in Nashville. When he was seven, he started learning the guitar and how to sing country. He won several awards as a young artist. After he turned twelve, he formed his own country band and performed in local clubs. At fifteen, he quit school and went on tour. He received acclaim for his guitar playing and won six Golden Guitars awards. EMI Records of Australia released his first album, Keith Urban, in 1991. Four songs on it became number one country hits in Australia. In 1992, Keith moved to Nashville, TN. He first worked as a guitarist for several hot country bands. Then he formed his own band The Ranch. They released the critically acclaimed album The Ranch in 1997. In 1998, he dissolved The Ranch to go solo.
