 Jonas Brothers Information

            The Jonas Brothers is a teen pop rock band formed in 2005 in Wyckoff, NJ by Nicholas Jerry “Nick” Jonas and his two older brothers, Paul Kevin “Kevin” Jonas and Joseph Adams “Joe” Jonas. At the age of six, in 1999, Nick was discovered while he was singing in a local barbershop. The next year, he started appearing in Broadway musicals. In 2002, he wrote his first song with the aid of his father “Joy to the World (A Christmas Prayer)”. Nick’s recording of the song was released on “Broadway’s Greatest Gifts: Carols for a Cure, Volume 4”. In 2003, INO records released his song to radio and it became a popular Christian hit. In 2004, Columbia Records gave Nick a recording contract and he released a solo album, “Nicholas Jonas”. The songs on it were co-written with his two older brothers Kevin and Joe. However, the album only had a very limited release.

           The new management at Columbia Records did not really like the songs on that album. However, they did like Nick’s voice and the musical abilities of his brothers. Therefore, they were offered a recording contract as a group in 2005. They picked the name “Jonas Brothers” for their band. They spent most of 2005 on tour with various singers and rock bands. Their first single, “Mandy” was released in December 2005. Due to management problems at Columbia Records, Jonas Brothers’ first album, “It’s About Time”, was not released until August 2006. The band also recorded several songs for Disney in 2006.

          Columbia Records dropped Jonas Brothers in January 2007. The band then found a contract with Hollywood Records. Their second album, “Jonas Brothers”, was released in August 2007. It hit number 5 on the charts. In addition, in October 2007, they began touring with Miley Cyrus as Hannah Montana as her opening act. They also appeared on her TV show. Disney has signed Jonas Brothers to do their own TV show: “J.O.N.A.S! (Junior Operatives Networking As Spies)”, a Disney movie, “Camp Rock”, and a musical special on the Disney channel. The current members of the band are the three Jonas brothers, Joe (lead vocalist/tambourine), Kevin (guitarist/backing vocalist), and Nick (lead vocalist/guitarist) plus Greg Garbowsky (bass guitarist), Jack Lawless (drummer), and John Taylor (guitarist).
