Jack Johnson Information

    Jack Hody Johnson was born to Patti and Jeff Johnson in Hauula, Hawaii on May 18, 1975. His father is a famous surfer. He was a professional surfer until the age of 17, when he had a bad surfing accident. He then turned to music. He had started playing the guitar at age 14. He attended and graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara with a film degree. While there, he met his wife, Kim. He started his music career during college. In 1999, he met the singer G. Love (Garrett Dutton III) for a day of surfing. G. Love then recorded Jack singing his song "Rodeo Clowns" on G. Love's 1999 album "Philadelphonic". That same year, Jack met singer Ben Harper in Santa Barbara. Harper gave a copy of Jack's demo recordings to his producer, J. P. Plunier. Jack received his first recording contract from him (Everloving Records).

    Jack's first album, "Brushfire Fairytales", was released in 2001. His second album, "On and On'', released in 2003 hit number three on the pop charts. In 2004, he started his own recording company, Bushfire Records, signing up his friend G. Love. Jack's fourth album, "Sing-A-Long and Lullabies for the Film Curious George", released in 2006, was his first number one hit. His fifth album, "Sleep Through the Static", 2008, also hit number one on the charts. He started his 2008 worldwide tour in Australia. His US leg of the tour begins on April 19.
