Genesis Information Genesis, an English rock band, was formed in 1967. In 1970, they moved into progressive rock and in the 1980s into the pop arena. The original band members were Tony Banks - keyboards, Peter Gabriel - lead vocalist, Anthony Phillips - guitar, Mike Rutherford - bass and guitar, and Chris Stewart - drums. Their first album was released in 1969 "From Genesis to Revelation". They are listed as one of the top thirty best selling bands in history. In 1988, they won the Grammy Award for "Best Concept Music Video". The band pioneered the use of the Prism sound system and Vri*Lite technology in their concerts, which are standard in today's concerts. The membership of the band has changed several times, with changes starting during the recording of their first album. In 1970, Phil Collins joined the band as drummer/backup vocalist. In 1976, Gabriel left the band and Collins became the lead vocalist. From 1977 to 1996 Genesis consisted solely of Banks, Collins, Rutherford, and two sessions performers. In 1996, Collins left the band to pursue his solo career. Ray Wilson was hired to replace him. However, the bands first album with him "Calling All Stations" was unsuccessful. Wilson was let go and the band ceased performing together. In November 2006, it was announced that Genesis was reforming for a new world tour "Turn It On Again: The Tour". The band now consists of Banks, Collins, Rutherford, and the same two sessions musicians they had from 1977 until 1996. They toured the United States in the late summer and early autumn of 2007.
