Akon Information

    Akon was born Aliuane Badara Thiam in St. Louis, Missouri on April 30, 1973. He is the son of the famous Jazz artist, Mor Thiam (from Dakar, Senegal). He is an award winning American R&B/hip hop singer/songwriter. Akon is the only artist ever to have had both the number 1 and number 2 spots on the Billboard Hot 100 chart at the same time twice. He has spent all his life living between the US and Senegal. He learned how to play various musical instruments from his father. However, he claims that his alleged prison time made him realize his musical abilities. (He has stated he spent 3 years in prison for grand theft auto, however, court records show only one conviction for gun use with 3 years probation and a few months in jail for auto theft; was not convicted.)

    Akon started recording demo tapes when he was 15 in Jersey City, New Jersey. Some of the tapes made it to SRC/Universal and they offered him a recording contract. His first album, "Trouble", was released in 2004. It had three number one hit singles. His second album, "Konvicted", released in November 2006, hit number two on the charts.
